Frequent brushings are needed though, to keep the coat clean and oils evenly distributed throughout the coat. A detergent-free, baby-oriented or another soft skin shampoo will help keel a Westie’s skin hydrated. To prevent oil and wax build up, and ear infections, make sure to wash the inside of their ears with cotton balls weekly. Groom your Westie’s at least every 6 weeks, and bathed and brushed them as needed between appointments.

Westies need training and socialization as well so that they can get along with people, especially with children in the family. If they have succeeded in their training, reward them with a Designer Westie Dog Collar – Red Traditional Westie Collar which features quick release nylon fasteners for safety and is machine washable. This collar can be the best gift you can give for your Westie.

Although it doesn’t say it is a Westie, the Terrier personality, that the Westie possesses shines through in this poem!

Terrier:

I am a little terrier dog
As feisty as can be.
So don’t you come in to my yard
And don’t you mess with me!

I know my rights, I have my ways,
I’m always on the go
(Not like some dogs I could mention
Who are lazy, fat and slow).

Devoted to my owners
And of that there is no doubt,
But strangers? I may let them in -
But I won’t let them out!

I’m a cocky little terrier dog
As you can plainly see,
But if you want a loving friend,
then that is really me!
